General Information
Unit History
Summit Scout Network was formed from the members of Summit Venture Scout Unit (VSU) when the Scout Association's new programme began in September 2002.
Summit VSU was officially formed in January 2000 although the group had been meeting for about a year before that as 11th Farnham VSU. It was created by three of the other groups in the Farnham district joining together to form one big unit rather than a few small ones which had declining numbers. The members came from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 11th Farnham groups. Some, of course, also came from the local Guide groups and others didn't have any experience in Scouting before coming to Summit.
We now have about 15 members and do a great range of activities from Bowling to Climbing and Camping to Canoeing. There is a night most weeks when we do something, whether it be in the hut or out and about somewhere.
We are always looking for new members so if you are interested in joining us to have the time of our life, please e-mail or fill in the feedback form.
Activities
We try to do as many activities as possible financially and time wise. The way we plan is we have a unit meeting and everyone who wants to do anything can add it to the programme. If a person suggests a particular activity they may be asked by the exec. to organise it and collect any monies and rally interest with the other members.
We find that the above method works quite well with a small number of activities no happening/being cancelled.
Here are a few of the activities that we have done recently:
- Abseiling
- Archery
- Raft building and river racing
- Canoeing
- Camping
- Parties
- Camping
- Bowling
- Crystal Maze
- Bouncy castle
- Hikes
- Night exercises
- Ice skating
- BBQs
- Pool evenings
- Mountian biking
- Assault courses
- Challenge weekends
- Swimming
- Karaoke evenings
- Quizzes
- Residential trips and much more besides!
