Southern 50 Hike
February 2000 »
During February 2000 4 members of the Unit; Darren Norris, Chris Baker, Dave Pink and Paul Brooks; headed off to the Chilterns for a 24 hour, 50 mile hike.
All did very well and despite their sterling efforts all but Darren dropped out at about the 26 mile point.
Below is the article featured in our local paper, The Farnham Herald.
Darren stays the course
FARNHAM Venture Scout Darren Norris was the only member of a four-man team who managed to complete a 50-mile hike, as part of a regional competition, the Southern 50.
Darren Norris, the team leader, finished the hike in an exhausting 24 and a half hours. The other three members of the Summit Venture Unit in Farnham retired after 26 miles.
Darren, from Folly Hill, said "It was the most exhausting experience I've ever had."
