Summit Network run national weekend camp
During the weekend 5th-7th September, the Farnham members of Summit Network held the second annual Theme Park Camp at the lovely Polyapes campsite in Cobham. This camp is for the Explorer and Network sections, and has grown from seventy people last year, to two hundred and seventy this year!
Groups came from all over country, Weston-Super-Mare, Ipswich, Bournemouth, across the water from the Isle of Wight, and all the way from Leeds! Thirty three Explorers came from just one district in Kettering.
A frantic Friday evening of car parking and registration led on to a disco, and in one of the huts, karaoke, giant Twister, and giant Jenga, hard-hats supplied! All of which were very popular.
Saturday morning dawned bright and sunny, when five coaches, supplied by Reptons Coaches of New Haw, whisked us all off to Thorpe Park for a very entertaining day on the various exciting rides.
Saturday evening was fancy dress night, "Anything beginning with S" produced at least two lots of Spice Girls, some Sailors, Sardines, and Shrink-wrap, amongst other bizarre things. After the disco, fires were lit and friends were made until the early hours.
Sunday morning was time to pack up, then County laid on a BBQ for those who didn't have to rush off to distant parts of the country. Followed by a bit more Twister and a sack-race or two, before it was time to have one last tidy-up and leave the site with a promise from the wardens that we're more than welcome next year. So it should be happening all over again!
This event was entirely run by Summit Network, and the people were full of praise for the slick organisation, and all said what a great time they'd had.
