Event report
Surrey County Night Challenge > November 1999
This took place on Saturday 20th to Sunday 21st November 1999. The report below is taken from a press release for the Farnham Herald.
Eight Venture Scouts, from the recently renamed Summit Venture Scout Unit took part in the Surrey County Venture Scout Competition. The competition took the form of a 15-mile night hike with eleven incidents.
The two teams set out at about 9pm on the Saturday evening knowing they had a long night ahead of them. The incidents they encountered were varied and challenging in both a mental and physical sense.
The activities included sending and receiving Morse-Code, a very tough assault course against the clock and negotiate a 'mine field' blindfolded & tied together at the ankles in a triangle. Both teams did very well in the overall competition, the first team; Sam Churchill, Matt Coburn, Julian Ash & Darren Norris; finished at about 3am and the second team; Dave Pink, Dave Stutters, Peter Truin & Johnnie Ridgeon; finished the 15 mile course at about 6am.
All members of the teams enjoyed themselves and wish to thank all those who helped to make the competition viable.
